Architectural asphalt shingles
Architectural shingles are the most common roof in the Fort Worth area. They're thicker and more wind-resistant than old 3-tab shingles, come in many colors, and are the budget-friendly option for most homes. Lighter colors and shingles with reflective granules can help reduce attic heat.
Class 4 impact-resistant shingles
Class 4 shingles are tested to resist hail impact better than standard shingles. They carry a higher project total up front, but many Texas insurance carriers offer premium discounts for them. Ask your agent what discount applies to your policy. For homes on open lots in Burleson, Crowley, Saginaw, and other growing areas, they're worth a close look.
Metal roofing
Standing-seam metal roofs reflect heat, shed rain quickly, and can last for decades. Hail can dent some metal panels, which is mostly cosmetic but matters for appearance. Metal has a higher project total than shingles but is popular on ranch homes, barns, and commercial buildings.
Ventilation matters as much as material
Whatever you choose, a roof can't last in North Texas without good ventilation. Attics here can reach 140 degrees or more in summer. Balanced intake at the soffits and exhaust at the ridge keep shingles cooler and lower cooling bills.
