Orange-size hail and tornado history
On June 13, 2012, the NWS logged hail up to the size of oranges on Edelweiss Drive in Grand Prairie. On May 24, 2011, grapefruit-size hail fell around neighboring Irving. During the March 28, 2000 tornado event, NOAA recorded F2 damage to a subdivision just northeast of Grand Prairie Municipal Airport, near Arkansas Lane and Parkside.
A long city with two very different halves
Grand Prairie stretches across Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis counties. The older central and north parts of the city have many 1950s to 1970s homes that often need essential roof repairs, new decking and updated gutters. The south end near Joe Pool Lake has newer master-planned communities like Lakeridge and Mira Lagos, with larger roofs, steep pitches and HOA rules. Homes near the lake also take more wind.
