"How much is a new roof?" is the first question most people ask me. The honest answer is that it depends on your roof, so here is what drives the price, a published benchmark, and how to get your real number. — Aaron

What does a roof replacement cost?

For a national benchmark, the 2025 Cost vs. Value Report published by Zonda (Remodeling and JLC) lists an average job cost of $31,871 for an asphalt shingle roof replacement and $51,865 for a metal roof. The report defines a specific project: tearing off and replacing about 3,000 square feet (30 squares) of roofing. These are national averages, not Fort Worth quotes. Your price will be higher or lower depending on the factors below.

What affects the cost of a new roof?

  • Size. Roofs are priced by the square (100 square feet). More squares, more materials and labor.
  • Pitch. Steep roofs need more safety equipment and take longer.
  • Complexity. Valleys, hips, dormers, turrets, skylights and chimneys add flashing and labor.
  • Tear-off. Removing more than one layer of old shingles adds cost.
  • Decking. Soft or rotted decking is replaced as needed once the old roof is off.
  • Material. Architectural shingles, Class 4 impact-resistant shingles and metal sit at different price points.
  • Extras. Ventilation upgrades, new flashing, and gutters if they are being replaced too.

Will insurance cover the cost?

If hail or wind caused widespread, covered damage, many homeowner policies pay for replacement minus your deductible. If the roof is just old, insurance usually does not. See insurance claim help and hail damage repair.

Repair or replace?

If the damage is isolated and the roof has life left, a roof repair costs far less. Read roof repair vs. replacement in Fort Worth and our Fort Worth roof replacement guide.

How much does a roof replacement cost in Fort Worth?

It depends mostly on roof size, pitch, complexity and material. For a national benchmark, the 2025 Cost vs. Value Report published by Zonda (Remodeling and JLC) puts an average asphalt shingle roof replacement at $31,871 and a metal roof at $51,865. Those are national averages for a defined project, not Fort Worth quotes. We measure your roof and give you a detailed estimate with the project total.

What makes one roof cost more than another?

The size of the roof in squares, how steep it is, how many valleys, hips, dormers and skylights it has, how many layers come off, how much decking needs replacing, and the shingle or metal you choose.

Does insurance pay for a roof replacement?

If a covered storm caused widespread damage, many policies pay to replace the roof minus your deductible. If the roof is simply old, insurance usually does not pay.

Is a Class 4 impact-resistant roof worth the extra cost?

Often, around Fort Worth. NOAA's Storm Events Database logged 52 hail reports near Fort Worth from 2012 through 2026. The Texas Department of Insurance says impact-resistant roofing can qualify for a premium discount, with Class 4 earning the highest credit, but each insurer sets its own amount, so ask yours. We will price both options.

Can I estimate my roof cost online?

Yes. Our roof cost calculator gives you a ballpark, including K-style gutters. Your actual price comes from a free inspection and a measured estimate.

Is a repair cheaper than a replacement?

Usually, for isolated damage on a roof with life left. When damage is widespread or the roof is near the end of its life, repeated repairs can cost more over time.
